Composite video output configuration on Sony EX1 camera
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Sony EX1 features a composite video output accessible through a proprietary connector on the side beneath the hand grip, with an included cable that terminates in RCA connectors
- Composite output on the EX1 can only be active when the SDI/HDSDI output is disabled in the camera menu, preventing simultaneous HD and SD output
- The composite output settings are found in a menu item labeled YPrBr Out with options for HDSDI, SDI, or Off
- The internal downconversion quality is acceptable for monitoring purposes but slightly underscans the video
- Video output options can be customized including letterbox, squeeze, edge crop modes and overlay display
- The iLink output must also be disabled when using composite monitoring, as enabling it disables the monitor output
- Caution is needed when handling the proprietary connector as its weight can damage the camera's connector port if not properly supported
Depends on
- The composite output cannot function simultaneously with HD-SDI output
- Peaking and zebra displays will not output through the composite connection
- The downconversion quality is limited compared to native HD output
- The proprietary connector design creates potential durability concerns due to connector weight
