Protecting cable labels with connectors already attached using heat shrink tubing

What the thread found

  • Heat shrink tubing can be stretched using thin needle nose pliers to fit over already-attached connectors
  • Heat shrink tubing will stretch significantly enough to accommodate common connector sizes like Lemos
  • After sliding heat shrink tubing over a connector, heating it causes the tubing to return to its normal contracted size
  • Applying small amounts of super glue to the cable before shrinking the tubing helps prevent re-expansion and keeps the label protection in place

Depends on

  • The method has size limits depending on connector dimensions
  • Heat shrink tubing will inevitably experience some degree of re-expansion over time
  • The technique works for common connector types but may not be suitable for larger connectors like ARRI power connectors
