Rig balance shift after initial balancing, despite no visible looseness
16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A rig that was balanced may develop a forward or backward lean during vertical hang tests even when all fasteners appear tight, requiring rebalancing
- Battery packs or gimbal components can shift slightly enough to affect rig balance without showing obvious movement
- When investigating unexplained balance shifts, performing a tilt while listening for clicking sounds and feeling for vibrations can reveal loose components that are not visually apparent
- A quick release ring connection can develop play that feels tight to the touch but still allows micro-movements affecting balance
- Cleaning debris from quick release ring threads and applying a small amount of lithium grease, then retightening with a dedicated tool, can eliminate balance shift problems caused by minor play in the connection
Depends on
- This discussion involves older equipment models from 2010
- The actual cause of the balance shift was never definitively identified in the thread
- No confirmation was provided that the suggested solutions resolved the reported problem
