Exovest pad configuration and velcro maintenance for cold and hot weather use
What the thread found
- The newer Exovest pads with grey 3-D spacer mesh feature a reversible design where the blue memory foam layer faces inward for summer use and should be flipped inside-out for winter operation to handle sub-zero conditions better.
- The white foam layer in the pad sandwich should remain in the middle during reversal, though experimentation with alternative configurations is possible.
- Velcro can separate from the vest over time due to heat and friction from the clasp system, but replacement velcro is available from the manufacturer.
- When applying replacement velcro, warm the adhesive with a hair dryer to improve bonding, as the adhesive requires heat to set properly.
- Sanding the application surface with rough sandpaper before applying new velcro improves adhesion by creating a better mechanical grip for the warmed adhesive.
- A heat gun should not be used to warm velcro as it will melt the material; a hair dryer is the appropriate heating tool.
Depends on
- The pad configuration information was not yet in the user manual at the time of posting.
- Velcro separation occurs primarily during handling and storage; it does not present a problem once the vest is worn under load.
- The newer pads with improved performance represent a rolling change and are not part of a formal upgrade package.
