Using Odyssey OLED monitors as on-camera and director's monitors for video production
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The onboard recording function works reliably in multiple codecs including ProRES and Sony FS 700 format.
- Waveform and other testing modes on the display are accurate for exposure assessment.
- OLED black levels require an adjustment period but deliver excellent picture quality.
- The monitor achieves sufficient brightness for director monitor use in daylight conditions with basic sun shading like a towel or reflector.
- The touch screen has high reflectivity which limits usefulness in bright conditions.
- The monitor is unsuitable for Steadicam mounting due to insufficient brightness and reflective screen.
- The device works well as an on-camera monitor when mounted on a c-stand with appropriate brackets.
- Future firmware updates were planned to expand functionality.
