When the upper weight adjustment knob is difficult to turn, load the arm appropriately and slowly boom the arm section down while attempting to turn the knob to find the point where it turns freely.
Applying a light oil to the threads can help free up a stuck adjustment knob; a thin oil works better than a thick one.
Work the knob back and forth while booming up and down after applying oil to help distribute the lubricant into the threaded connection.
A bent threaded rod will cause the adjustment knob to stick, so inspecting for bending is important in troubleshooting.
