Balancing a lightweight camera on Steadicam Jr with bottom-heavy issue
20 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A camera weighing 140 grams mounted on a Steadicam Jr can be extremely bottom-heavy even with the light stopper installed and gimbal fully unscrewed.
- Adding approximately one kilogram of weight to the top of the camera can resolve the bottom-heavy balance problem on a Steadicam Jr.
- Steel plates secured with strong adhesive velcro can serve as counterweight additions to balance lightweight cameras on the stabilizer.
Depends on
- The original poster was using a second-hand Steadicam Jr estimated to be 6-8 years old at time of posting.
- The solution was tested with one specific camera model and may not apply universally to all lightweight cameras.
- No official accessory from the manufacturer for accommodating very light cameras was mentioned or confirmed.
