Powering multiple 12V devices from a Flyer LE sled
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Flyer LE has a single power output with relatively small gauge wiring that may not safely support powering multiple high-draw devices simultaneously.
- Running multiple devices from the Flyer LE's power output is technically possible but risks long-term damage to the wiring and should not be relied upon as a permanent solution.
- Flying a dedicated battery on the camera itself is the recommended approach, especially for lighter prosumer-level cameras.
- On the original Flyer model, a second battery plate was a dummy plate not wired into the sled, but the D-tap output may have been functional and could theoretically be used to run a separate power line to devices mounted on the camera stage.
- A two-device power setup using the D-tap requires routing heavy gauge wiring from the sled forward to the camera stage and necessitates sufficient camera payload weight for system balance.
Depends on
- The thread addresses the Flyer LE but compares it to the original Flyer model, and the exact wiring configuration of the LE version's battery plate remains unclear.
- No specifications provided for the prosumer cameras or ATEM boxes being considered.
- The experience mentioned was limited to a 2-day shoot, not extended long-term operation.
- The theoretical D-tap solution was never tested by the participants.
