Tally indication on external monitors (SmallHD 703 UB) without Transvideo integration on GPI CineLive

What the thread found

  • A Y-cable from the 8-pin CineLive connector provides power to SmallHD monitors and can supply an LED tally indicator; this requires an additional cable from camera to top stage or a photosensor to receive the signal.
  • Independent rig-agnostic tally systems such as Zalex are recommended by operators for reliability.
  • Some SmallHD models like the DP7 include built-in tally; alternatively, an external LED mounted on the monitor frame can be driven via the monitor cable.
  • For live television broadcasts, operators deploy two tally systems: one visible to the operator and a second positioned near the lens for talent or prompter visibility.
  • A low-budget solution uses a simple photosensor powered by a 9 V battery to detect and repeat tally signals.
