New Volt prototype with pan axis: whip pans with telephoto and implications for operator skill.

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • The developer reports that roll and tilt behavior match the two-axis Volt; the new pan drive offers adjustable fluid-head-like resistance and independently adjustable pan inertia from zero to very high, resembling the feel of Kenyon gyro systems.
  • The pan motor at the post aids roll stabilization at large tilt angles.
  • The operator can override Volt guidance at any time.
  • Several Steadicam® Trinity operators requested a version for the Artemis 2 post to prevent unwanted post roll.
  • One operator achieves similar results with a Betz KS4 gyro at 9 volts.

Depends on

  • Whether increased electronic assistance reduces the measurable difference between skilled and less skilled operators, and the professional implications of that change.
