Mounting a Kenyon 6x6 gyroscope to a GPI Pro camera rig when standard post mounts are unavailable
What the thread found
- The Kenyon 6x6 gyroscope can be mounted to a Pro rig by attaching it to a custom aluminium plate bolted to a V-lock battery plate at the bottom of the sled
- Mounting the gyroscope directly to the plastic V-lock plate creates excessive torque and stress, requiring additional support brackets and bracing
- The gyroscope can be powered via D-tap connection from rear batteries instead of requiring an external battery unit
- Support brackets should be fabricated in metal and connected to both sides of the battery to meet the accessories plate above and provide additional stability points
- A single 6x6 gyroscope weighs approximately 7 pounds or more when including mounting hardware and cables, but offers advantages over dual KS6 gyroscopes including reduced total weight, quieter operation, better balance, and improved stability
- Custom fabrication shops including Mitchell's Engineering and Movie Camera Support in Uxbridge have experience machining gyroscope mounts for camera rigs
Depends on
- Information is from 2015 and may not reflect current availability of mounting solutions
- The specific weight and performance claims come from secondhand reports of configurations used by other operators
- The mounting approach requires custom fabrication and is not available as a pre-manufactured solution
