Cleaning the pan bearing of an Archer 2 gimbal without full disassembly

What the thread found

  • The top stage of an Archer 2 gimbal is difficult to remove and full disassembly is not necessary for pan bearing maintenance.
  • The pan bearing can be cleaned by removing only the top cap of the gimbal and the pan bearing housing from the gimbal grip, then protecting the post stages with plastic bags and paper towels before spraying cleaner.
  • Cleaning the bearing while keeping the gimbal mounted requires more cleaner and effort than full disassembly because you have limited access to spin the bearing and work around the gimbal grip.
  • This partial disassembly approach has been successfully used on similar gimbal models to fix sticky pan bearings.

Depends on

  • The procedure is more labor-intensive than full disassembly.
  • Access to the bearing is limited, requiring more cleaner and making it harder to manually rotate the bearing during cleaning.
  • Only confirmed for Archer 2 and similar models; specific techniques may vary.
