PRO-Rig with Volt gimbal and short gimbal handle: improper arm angle and thumb reach to gimbal collar.
DisputedParticipants disagreed and reached no conclusion. Read the findings as positions, not as an answer.
What the thread found
- The short PRO gimbal handle combined with the Tiffen Volt likely causes the arm to angle downward steeply, making the gimbal collar unreachable by the operator's thumb.
- Three remedies exist: a custom-milled handle with a different angle geometry, a milled angle adapter inserted between handle and arm (which raises the sled-to-arm pivot point), or substituting the short handle with an alternative such as an XCS Ergo Handle.
- For load-bearing parts, only milled components are safe; 3D-printed material must not be used in structural roles.
- One operator has built such an adapter, but it is not commercially available as a standard product.
Depends on
- The choice between modifying the handle, adding an adapter, or replacing the handle depends on the operator's reach proportions, arm geometry, and budget.
- Adding an adapter raises the sled-to-arm coupling point, affecting balance and weight distribution.
