Noise and vibration from a modified Betz Top Stage during heavy builds; lubrication of the Top Stage–post connection
What the thread found
- The noise originates primarily from metal-to-metal contact between the Top Stage and the post, not from the stage itself.
- Cleaning the threads of the center post and stage, then tightening the four top screws and all screws around the post top provided only partial improvement.
- A small amount of white lithium grease applied between the Top Stage and post top surface resolved the noise for at least two operators.
- The post area where tilting moment is transmitted should be inspected carefully for damage before attempting other remedies.
Depends on
- Effectiveness may vary with the degree of wear, modification history, and load weight on the sled.
