Tightening a loose quick-release lever on the Top Stage dovetail plate, and preventing camera slip during shoulder operation.

What the thread found
- On M1/M2, Axis, and Pilot models, the lever can be adjusted per manual using a small hex key inserted through the gap in the lever mechanism.
- Older Steadicam® rigs may require a shim in the locking mechanism; on Clipper, first check that the lever pivot screw is tight, as loosening reduces downward pressure, then install an appropriate steel shim behind the closing plate.
- Cardboard is too compressible and can bend or crack the hardened closing plate over time.
- A thin strip of gaffer or aluminium tape applied to one side of the dovetail plate serves as a temporary fix; remove after use because tape residue is difficult to clean.
- Zephyr uses a smaller dovetail than standard rigs and the wrong plate may be the cause; however, on Clipper 312 even the supplied plate slipped under heavy load.
- One operator considered thin steel plate on the flanks of the dovetail; others recommended borrowing a different plate to test compatibility.
Depends on
- Rig model and age affect the adjustment method.
- Camera weight and load distribution during shoulder operation.
- Whether the supplied dovetail plate matches the sled model.
