Availability of Volt stabilizer compatible with 2-inch gimbal posts
DisputedParticipants disagreed and reached no conclusion. Read the findings as positions, not as an answer.
What the thread found
- The Volt stabilizer was designed for 1.5-inch posts and adapting it to larger diameters requires significant engineering work on the gimbal yoke, bearings, and motor mounting rather than just the post itself.
- Tiffen has cooperated with other manufacturers interested in adapting the Volt to their gimbals but does not engineer these adaptations themselves.
- XCS chose to develop a 1.75-inch post version compatible with Tiffen gimbals rather than modify their own gimbal to accommodate the Volt.
- Betz Tools offers a Volt-compatible sled with an 1.86-inch post diameter.
- MK-V reportedly worked on a 2-inch Volt adapter but provided no concrete deliverables despite promises made over an extended period.
- One user reported seeing a photograph of a Volt mounted on an MK-V 2-inch post but without confirmation of actual market availability.
Depends on
- Discussion spans 2019-2022 with no confirmed 2-inch Volt product reaching market by the latest mention.
- One account of MK-V collaboration issues comes from a single user with an extended frustration history.
- The photograph of a supposed Volt on MK-V 2-inch post lacks verification or additional details.
- Technical viability of 2-inch Volt adaptation remains unconfirmed for most manufacturers.
- Business case for individual manufacturers to engineer 2-inch adaptations may not justify the cost.
