Powering an AJA video converter from a BFD battery through pass-through connections
18 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Different AJA converter models have different voltage requirements, with some requiring 5-6 volts and others requiring 12 volts.
- Powering a 5-6 volt AJA model through a BFD pass-through connection at higher voltages can damage the device.
- Direct cable connection from the AJA on camera to the base stage power distribution worked reliably as an alternative approach.
- Some AJA models are specified to accept a voltage range of 5-17 volts, but this specification does not necessarily mean all voltages in that range are equally safe.
Depends on
- The voltage specifications of specific AJA models are not confirmed.
- The exact power draw of the AJA was not measured or verified.
- The pass-through power configuration of the BFD was not fully understood by the original poster.
- This discussion is from 2008 and involves equipment from that era.
