Power management and configuration for F65 camera on stabilized gimbal rig in remote desert location
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The F65 camera and recorder together consume approximately 100 watts of power.
- Battery runtime under full load is significantly shorter than rated capacity suggests, with 90Wh batteries providing roughly 30 minutes rather than the theoretical one hour, due to voltage droop during discharge.
- Three batteries wired in parallel on a single circuit does not create backfeeding issues if the SDI connection is used instead of the 8-pin Lemo cable connection.
- Operating in desert heat conditions increases battery drain beyond normal rates compared to temperate climates.
- A super post or extended F-bracket with longer arm allows positioning the camera closer to ground level without adding weight to the gimbal base.
- The camera outputs progressive scan as PsF (progressive segmented frame) format via SDI, which some monitors cannot accept directly.
- Moving the monitor higher on the rig and positioning wireless video transmitter lower improves balance and shooting flexibility.
- Shooting upside down and inverting the image in camera menu is faster than switching to low mode for low-angle shots.
Depends on
- Experience limited to specific battery models and charger combinations mentioned.
- Desert heat effects on battery performance are reported but not quantified precisely.
- The SDI output format issue with Gen 2 monitor and PsF signals remains partially unresolved, with workarounds involving external converters.
- Configuration and performance heavily dependent on specific camera firmware version and recorder model used.
- Power consumption figures based on stated load testing, not comprehensive specification data.
