Bearing play in Steadicam Flyer LE gimbal yoke attachment
16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Minor play in the bearing housing where the yoke connects to the gimbal can be normal and may disappear once the rig is loaded with a camera payload.
- To properly assess gimbal play, the unit should be tested with the camera mounted on the balance point of the docking bracket rather than inspected unloaded.
- After balancing the rig, the sled should maintain static balance when rotated 180 degrees to verify the gimbal is functioning correctly.
Depends on
- The assessment was made on an unloaded gimbal without a camera mounted, which may not reflect normal operating conditions.
- The issue was never definitively resolved in the thread as the camera was away for service at the time of the discussion.
- This discussion is from 2010 and specific to the Flyer LE model.
