Run/stop cable compatibility issues between Preston MDR2 controller and RED camera
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A run/stop cable that previously worked reliably may fail to function even with the same camera body due to camera firmware updates or setting changes.
- RED cameras with GPI trigger inputs require proper configuration of pulse interpretation: the first trigger pulse should be set to start recording while the second pulse must be set to stop recording, and having both set identically will cause the stop command to fail.
- The accessory port on the side of a RED camera may have different GPI configuration options than the 4-pin ports on the back.
Depends on
- The exact cause of the intermittent failure was not definitively determined in this discussion.
- The solution provided was specifically for the back-mounted 4-pin GPI ports and may not directly apply to the side accessory port.
- Settings and behavior may vary depending on RED camera model and firmware version.
- No resolution was confirmed for the specific case of using the side accessory port.
