Mounting Sony Venice 2 on ARRI Trinity with SAM-0 plate: build configuration and balancing strategies.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- The Sony Venice 2 fits on the Trinity rig because its dimensions match the Venice 1 without rear recorder; the nodal point sits slightly low, but top-mounted motors can compensate effectively with weight stacking.
- One operator achieved balance with a single 150 g top weight; a second cforce mini motor or Cinetape would have eliminated the need for added weight.
- Nodal positioning is not critical for boom shots, allowing more flexibility in rig configuration.
- Side balance can be creatively solved using light 15 mm rod holders; each build will differ based on lens choice and accessory configuration.
- On Trinity 1, removing the camera's bottom baseplate while retaining the top plate adds necessary weight to the rig head; Venice 1 with a rental house top bracket can only be inserted off-center and requires correction.
- A Preston MDR4 focus motor mounted above the rig just barely clears the Trinity motor heads when used with longer lenses.
Depends on
- Nodal depth and balancing depend on lens selection, motor choice (cforce mini vs. Cinetape), and accessory weight.
- Configuration differs between Trinity 1 and Trinity 2 models.
