Replacing a broken gimbal clamp on a Volt gimbal and field repair options.
What the thread found
- The clamp on a Tiffen Volt gimbal can be replaced by driving out the pins on both sides with a punch.
- Tiffen clamps are known as a weak point on both the Volt and M2 models; the PRO system allows easier clamp replacement.
- Operators should carry spare silver and blue clamp parts in their kit to avoid downtime on set.
- If no replacement gimbal is available, a hose clamp with rubber liner sized to the gimbal shaft diameter can serve as an emergency backup.
- Regular visual inspection for clamp bending prevented at least one gimbal from falling.
Depends on
- Repair method depends on access to the correct pins and punch tools on set.
- Emergency hose clamp solution is only suitable when a replacement gimbal cannot be deployed.
