Rocket Arm (elastic band arm) versus traditional spring arms like the G70x: performance, weight, build, and design dispute.
DisputedParticipants disagreed and reached no conclusion. Read the findings as positions, not as an answer.
What the thread found
- One experienced G70x operator reports the Rocket Arm as the best arm tested: smooth, compliant, without spring effect, no perceptible friction, and completely silent.
- The Rocket Arm weighs approximately 5 lb (2.3 kg) less and is significantly smaller than a G70x; with a 55 lb (25 kg) sled it holds position at any height and still responds finely to boom movements.
- The Rocket Arm uses polymer bands with proprietary formulation wrapped around internal and external 'bones'; a newer version includes an additional 'Orbit' roller for more linear behavior across the boom range.
- The manufacturer produces in batches of 15 arms (named after Apollo missions), approximately one batch every six months; upgrade to the latest version is available; ordering by email; custom logos can be engraved on the rollers.
- Band arm history: Aigle-BRAS-LTX patent (2007), NB-Arm (2013, latex bands outside), Rever Band Arm (2022, most affordable option), then Rocket Arm.
- The NB-Arm manufacturer asserts that Rocket Engineering copied design features (adjustable kick-back element, removable arm-post friction control, fully closed arm bones) and references German competition law.
Depends on
- Rocket Arm as new development versus NB-Arm derivative remains disputed.
- One operator continues to prefer the NB-Arm.
