Steadicam balance problem after resting the rig on shoulder during operation
14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A camera dovetail plate that is not tightened securely to the top stage can slip when the rig is placed on the shoulder, causing balance shifts during operation.
- A dovetail plate mounted backwards on the camera can contribute to balance problems.
- Removing cables such as tele light and video output connections did not resolve the balance issue in this case, suggesting the problem was mechanical rather than weight-related.
- Balance can drift between static checking on a dock and dynamic operation after the rig has been rested on the shoulder.
Depends on
- The operator was fatigued from waiting between static and dynamic balance checks before the final flight.
- The issue may be specific to how the particular camera or dovetail plate interfaces with the top stage rather than a universal problem.
- No resolution was confirmed in the thread regarding the root cause.
