Compatibility between Heden motors and Preston follow focus systems
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Heden digital motors such as the 26ve or 21ve are compatible with Preston hu1 and mdr1 follow focus systems.
- Preston systems require digital motors with encoders rather than analog motors with potentiometers.
- Most digital motors compatible with Preston systems use a Lemo 1B 7 pin connector, though this connector alone is not a reliable indicator of compatibility.
- Tilta motors have a Lemo 1B 7 pin connector matching industry standards but use different pinouts and control systems, making them incompatible with Preston systems despite their similar appearance.
- Heden M26PT and M28VPT combo motors have a Lemo 1B 7 pin connector but operate with analog potentiometers and tachometers for zoom or focus applications.
Depends on
- Heden analog P-series motors such as m28-vp and m26p do not work with Preston systems.
- The Micro Servo was a discontinued Preston product with different requirements.
- Tilta motors cannot be used as a substitute despite having compatible-looking connectors.
- The presence of a Lemo 1B 7 pin connector is not a definitive compatibility indicator.
