Optimal placement of wireless video transmitters on camera sleds
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Mounting the transmitter on top of the camera provides the best signal quality because the antenna maintains clear line-of-sight with the receiver.
- If top-mounted placement is not possible, positioning the antenna so it extends above the camera body is essential to avoid obstruction.
- Mounting a transmitter directly against the camera body can cause signal interference effects such as ghosting lines.
- Elevating the transmitter away from the camera using a riser arm improves signal quality by increasing antenna height above head level.
- Velcroing the transmitter on top of an external wireless distribution box positioned just below and in front of the top stage can work effectively.
Depends on
- The discussion references specific camera models and wireless systems from 2011 that may have different performance characteristics than modern equipment.
- Optimal placement depends on the specific setup geometry and surrounding obstacles in the shooting environment.
- Interference effects mentioned were observed on one particular camera model and may not apply universally.
