Image flipping options for low-mode shooting with Epic and Alexa cameras
14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
DisputedParticipants disagreed and reached no conclusion. Read the findings as positions, not as an answer.
What the thread found
- The Epic camera contains a vertical flip function accessible through settings in the monitor menu
- When the Epic lacks an in-camera flip option, operators can physically mount the camera upside down and flip the image during post-production
- Some camera operators found manual image flipping in camera settings preferable to post-production flipping to keep client monitors displaying correct orientation
- The Alexa camera does not have a built-in image flip setting
Depends on
- Discussion occurred in 2012 and firmware updates may have changed capabilities since then
- One participant initially confused the Epic with the RED MX regarding flip functionality
- One claim about finding the vertical flip function contradicts earlier statements that no such function existed
- Whether the vertical flip function works specifically in low-mode shooting was not explicitly confirmed
