Clamping the Gorelock ring around the J-box ring to reduce post-to-camera distance on a PRO HD / XCS hybrid sled
15 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Tightening the Gorelock ring directly around the J-box ring recovers approximately half an inch of post room when using a PRO HD with XCS 2 inch hybrid setup
- Multiple users have operated with this configuration for over a year without problems
- The J-box ring was originally designed as the OEM PRO docking ring and is built to handle the movement and weight from regular docking, making it suitable for this clamping method
- Periodic inspection of both the upper and lower J-box rings is recommended to ensure they remain properly tightened when using this technique
Depends on
- Users report this is an unconventional modification, not an officially documented procedure
- The modification was adopted based on informal suggestions within the user community
- Long-term durability data is limited to user reports rather than manufacturer testing
- The technique requires regular maintenance checks to verify the J-box rings stay tight
