Voltage drop when powering RED Dragon through Steadicam Clipper 12V distribution
What the thread found
- When a battery is connected directly to RED Dragon, the voltage reading is higher than when the same battery is connected through a Steadicam Clipper 12V sled via Lemo cable, with approximately one volt of loss observed
- A Steadicam Clipper 312 sled provides only a 12V line without a 24V option
- Voltage drop occurs through the sled and its connector when used as an intermediary power distribution point
- The flashing low-battery LED on a sled can be a user-adjustable setting and may trigger before actual battery depletion
- Freshly charged 14.4V batteries often display voltage readings higher than their nominal rating on camera displays
Depends on
- The exact magnitude of runtime impact from the observed voltage drop is not quantified in the discussion
- The flashing LED behavior and its threshold setting is sled-specific and may vary by equipment configuration
- No measurements were provided to isolate whether the voltage loss occurs in the sled, the Lemo connector, or the cable run
