Setup and operational tips for Mini35 film adapter on Steadicam

21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • The steadyshot feature should be disabled to avoid vibrating or lagging in the image.
  • Ground glass rotation must be verified before each take as it is sometimes turned off to preserve battery and forgotten to be restarted.
  • The Mini35 does not have onboard voltage regulation and is designed for 7.2v camcorder batteries, so 14.4v power will damage it and requires an external voltage regulator.
  • Low mode brackets cannot be mounted on the Mini35, but the camera can be inverted and the image flipped in post-production or a cage can be used as alternatives.
  • A remote start port with a 2-pin Lemo connector exists but is rarely ordered.
  • RCA to BNC converter cables are needed in the setup.
  • The device works well for Steadicam operation at a weight of 14-20 pounds with good length-to-weight distribution for inertia control.
  • Lens adapters without internal image correction produce upside-down video unsuitable for Steadicam monitoring unless the entire rig is mounted inverted.

Depends on

  • Weight range is approximate at 14-20 pounds.
  • The remote start cable is uncommon and availability may be limited.
  • Low mode operation requires workarounds rather than direct mounting solutions.
  • Upside-down image correction in cheaper alternatives like Micro35 requires operational compromises.
