Construction of a vehicle hard mount for camera rigs similar to the Sophie Rickshaw design
What the thread found
- The mount consists of square tubing welded to round tubing as the basic structural component
- The frame uses 2 inch square tubing connected to approximately 2 inch round steel tubing
- A seat from Northern Tool can be mounted on top of the structure
- An applebox placed underneath the seat helps distribute weight more evenly
- Steel cables are used to secure the entire mount assembly for added stability
- This type of mount is intended only for slow-speed filming on smooth surfaces, such as leisurely bicycle rides or running scenes
- The setup is not suitable for high-speed vehicle pursuits or chases
- A professional driver, vehicle in good condition, and locked-off filming area are essential safety requirements
- The mounting approach avoids placing excessive weight on the vehicle tailpipe, particularly during turns
Depends on
- Designed specifically for low-speed applications only
- Requires smooth surface conditions for operation
- Mandates professional driver and secured filming location
- The pictured setup shown may not represent the complete or properly configured installation
