Mounting bracket design for MDR3 follow focus system with multiple positioning options

12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • A mounting bracket can be designed to attach to an MDR3 and accommodate V-mount shoes or 1/4 20 threaded brackets in multiple positions
  • The bracket design allows the V-mount shoe to be oriented in four different rotational positions at each of five possible mounting locations, providing twenty total configuration options
  • The bracket itself can be flipped to mount either with the connector on top or bottom of the camera
  • Alternative 15mm mounting options can be integrated with a locating pin system that also allows four different rotational positions at each location
  • V-mount shoes salvaged from discarded SWIT batteries can serve as functional mounting elements and fit snugly in the bracket holes

Depends on

  • The prototype had not yet been tested at the time of the initial post
  • Availability of V-mount shoes from SWIT batteries was limited to approximately five units, with alternative Element Technica shoes potentially required if production quantities increased
  • Pricing information was not finalized and depended on consultation between the designer and the manufacturing partner
  • The designer did not have both the bracket and MDR3 together on location to document the final assembled configuration
