Troubleshooting non-functional tally signal from PRO Cinelive to Cinetronic Gen2 monitor
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Tally signal requires voltage between 2 and 24 volts applied to the correct pins on the monitor connector to function.
- The monitor expects a video signal to be present before the tally indicator will display.
- Pin polarity on the 8-pin lemo connector is critical and may be reversed compared to manufacturer specifications, which can be tested by flipping the internal tally connector on the monitor without permanent modification.
- A 9-volt battery can be connected to pins to manually test whether the tally circuit on the monitor is functional.
- Continuity testing with a multimeter on the cabling does not guarantee that the tally voltage is being properly generated or transmitted from the camera sled.
- Before modifying the monitor, the camera sled should be tested first as the safer troubleshooting step.
Depends on
- The solution involved a specific custom tally modification ordered with one particular monitor model.
- Pin configuration information came from manufacturer documentation that proved to be inaccurate or contradictory across different units.
- One person's experience with pin reversal does not guarantee the same issue exists in all units.
