Upgrading power wiring gauge in a sled camera top stage connector

14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • Upgrading from 24 AWG to 16 AWG power wire in a sled top stage provides some benefit and carries no risk since it is a reversible modification.
  • An EXG 0B Lemo connector is rated for only 6 amps maximum current.
  • Replacing the power Lemo connector with a larger one would require modifications to the printed circuit board and drilling of the end piece enclosure, making it impractical.
  • At 12 volt operation, thicker gauge wire can be used without requiring an upgraded connector.

Depends on

  • The discussion is specific to an original Archer sled model.
  • The user had not yet tested the actual system performance with the upgraded wire at the time of the discussion.
  • The original power issues mentioned were based on reports from other forum users rather than first-hand experience.
