Volt installation in Tiffen gimbal: mechanical improvements and assembly notes.
What the thread found
- The Tiffen Volt kit ships separately from the gimbal, which now arrives in Tiffen post size with sprung spacer bushings for smaller posts, the smallest being 1.5 inches.
- Installation of the Volt upgrade is significantly simpler than previous versions.
- The pan encoder is cleanly integrated into the new design.
- Earlier Volt versions had a tilt pulley that would delaminate; the current version is machined from solid stock, with a stiffer bracket and shorter load path.
- The drive belts feel stiffer than in prior versions, and the pan bearing operates very smoothly.
- Gimbal centering should be planned into setup time; one operator skipped it for schedule reasons.
Depends on
- Gimbal centering is a separate step that requires dedicated time during installation.
