Fine adjustment options for steadicam head positioning
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The S60 steadicam model has limited fine adjustment capability despite having forward/back and side-to-side adjustment capacity
- A macro focusing slider can be used as an alternative fine adjustment solution for steadicam heads
- Installing an older Model 3A top stage in place of the existing head provides significantly better adjustability than budget steadicam models
- Two micrometric positioning sliders mounted at ninety degrees to each other can serve as a fine adjustment system for smaller cameras on steadicams
- Used Model 3A top stages and compatible camera plates with gear strips are available in the used market
Depends on
- The dual slider approach works best with smaller cameras
- Upgrading to a Model 3A top stage involves substantial cost compared to budget steadicam equipment
- The S60 is described as a budget clone model with limited capabilities
