Operating camera gimbal in low mode without a low mode bracket
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- A low mode bracket is not strictly necessary if the camera can invert its image digitally, allowing the operator to flip the image instead of physically rotating the rig
- The Pro model gimbal offers more clearance between yoke and center post compared to standard models, which can permit low mode operation without a bracket
- Using a lighter camera setup lowers the gimbal position away from the top stage, potentially providing enough clearance for panning without a bracket
- The XCS Ergo handle can provide sufficient clearance to eliminate the need for an F bracket in many shooting situations
- An F bracket enables lower positioning in both high mode and low-high mode, which is particularly useful when filming subjects at ground level such as children or animals
Depends on
- This workaround is model-dependent and works better with Pro models than standard models
- Digital image inversion only works with cameras that support this feature
- Some operators report they have not needed the bracket for several years, but acknowledge there may be situations requiring it
- Limited panning range is possible without a bracket
