Powering cameras and accessories with a Pro CineLive battery rig
What the thread found
- A Pro CineLive rig with Gen 4 battery rack has three battery plates: bottom front and top back providing 12V power, and bottom back providing auxiliary 24V power
- The lower junction box has three breakers controlling power flow: Cam and Acc breakers supply 12V from the front and top plates, while the Aux breaker supplies 24V from the bottom back plate
- When operating in 12V mode, all 12V-only outputs continuously provide 12V power regardless of switch position
- Alexa cameras can operate on either 12V or 24V, but the sled cannot provide sufficient wattage at 12V, making 24V mode necessary for proper camera operation
- 12V/24V capable outputs like Lemo connectors will receive 24V when the switch is set to 24V mode and the Aux breaker is engaged
- The auxiliary P-Tap on the right side of the lower electronics has been known to damage recorders and should be used with caution
- The left-hand P-Tap labeled for accessories always provides 12V power
- Preston and Teradek accessories can regulate input power appropriately up to approximately 31V
- Power cables for Preston and other accessories can be custom-made by specifying the sled model and desired connector types
- Using the auxiliary battery plate as both active camera power and a spare battery for balance can help manage battery usage across a shooting day
Depends on
- The responder described themselves as not an expert in power systems and acknowledged areas of uncertainty about specifications
- Specific wattage requirements for operating Alexa at 12V were not definitively stated
- One reported instance of a camera breaker popping when switching to 24V mode resulted in inconclusive troubleshooting, possibly indicating a ground leak in the camera system rather than a sled issue
- The exact labeling of all P-Tap outputs was uncertain from memory
- Best practices for cable routing and ground management were not thoroughly discussed
