MDR3 bracket compatibility and mounting options for cinema follow focus systems
12 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Preston manufactures an MDR3 bracket that positions the dovetail in the middle of the MDR rather than at the edge
- The Pro bracket hangs the MDR upside down
- Optical Support in the UK produces a bracket with quick-release functionality that allows fore and aft sliding adjustment and removal for mounting on speedy clamps
- Cinelive upper J boxes are larger than previous versions in both width and length, creating clearance issues between the bracket-mounted MDR and the J box
- When using a Preston MDR3 bracket with Cinelive electronics, cable clearance becomes problematic because the dovetail positioning brings the MDR closer to the J box
- Using 90-degree angled connectors on motor power and on-off cables can resolve cable clearance conflicts
- Mounting the MDR3 backwards allows use of 90-degree motor cables but creates accessibility issues with buttons and cable length constraints for power and control lines
Depends on
- Discussion focuses on Cinelive electronics specifically, compatibility with other systems unclear
- Bracket availability status may have changed since 2014
- One user reported mounting MDR3 backwards as a workaround but noted resulting complications
- Optical Support bracket details not fully documented in thread
