Removing a stuck aircraft pin from an EFP arm
21 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Soak the stuck pin and arm block overnight in WD40 to help loosen corrosion or debris
- Use a hardwood block between the hammer and pin when tapping to avoid direct impact damage
- If soaking does not work, dry the part and apply heat with a hot air blower before attempting to tap again
- When reassembling, clean all holes thoroughly and polish the pin to prevent future sticking
- Apply a Teflon-based grease or small amount of petroleum jelly to the pin as a water repellent before reassembly
- Inspect the pin for bending and verify that all holes align properly during reassembly
Depends on
- The pin had not been moved for approximately five years, making it particularly difficult to free
- Some participants expressed reluctance about using WD40, suggesting potential concerns about its application in this context
- No confirmation provided that the stuck pin was successfully removed using these methods
