Extending horizontal arm range on G-70 by removing restriction block and reversing kick-back link
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- Removing the small block that restricts the male socket block's travel against the torsion spring, combined with reversing the kick-back link to a kick-forward configuration, extends the horizontal range of arm movement in both directions on the G-70.
- The modification allows the arm to extend further to the left during normal operation and achieve the same extended range to the right as the previous kick-back link design provided.
- The arm stops banging against the restriction block when running after this modification is applied.
- The technique requires learning a new insertion method for the male socket block into the female socket on the vest since the alignment block is removed.
- This modification approach originated from a similar concept developed for the G-50 arm and can be applied to other arm models as well.
- The modification improves how arms fold out of the way when operating to the right in normal position or to the left when in goofy position with the arm attached on the left side.
- No parts need to be purchased for this modification; it only requires removing the existing block and reversing the link configuration.
Depends on
- The modification does not extend reach across the body.
- Requires developing new technique for inserting the male socket block into the female socket due to removal of the alignment block.
- Technique was originally developed for specific arm models but applicability to all arm types was not comprehensively tested in the discussion.
