Gimbal dynamic balance problems with camera resting in tilted position
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- When a gimbal fails to maintain dynamic balance, the precision adjustment bolts may be insufficiently tightened to hold calibration after centering
- Dynamic balance requires careful positioning of camera center of gravity, typically starting around the back of the gimbal post, then fine-tuned by moving battery position in small increments
- Every mass added to a sled affects both static and dynamic balance, but in field practice only monitor position, battery position, camera position, and sled length are typically adjusted
- A monitor mounted forward on the sled can interfere with side-drop test methods for evaluating dynamic balance
- Loose or shifting accessories like cables and wireless receivers can cause balance to shift during testing, but loose gimbal bolts remain a primary suspect when all accessories are secured
Depends on
- The issue was ultimately resolved for this specific operator but may recur, requiring professional service inspection
- Discussion mentions a specific camera system and gimbal model but generalizes to other configurations
- Recommendations reference printed documentation that participants found helpful but exact applicability to other gimbal designs unclear
