Mounting a Preston MDR unit onto a Zephyr camera support system

14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • The MDR unit can be mounted either to the Zephyr sled itself or directly to the camera body, depending on available surface area and shooting needs.
  • Strong adhesive velcro such as 2M Dualock can secure the MDR underneath the stage area, though careful spacing is needed to allow room for the docking bracket.
  • The MDR can be attached to 15mm support rods using brackets that are typically included with the rental kit by screwing the brackets to the MDR and mounting them onto the rods.
  • Previously used methods included velcroing a BDR unit to the camera body in similar applications.

Depends on

  • This discussion involves a 2012 setup and older camera support technology.
  • The optimal mounting method depends on the specific camera model and Zephyr configuration being used.
  • One participant had not personally used the Preston system and was speculating about rail mounting options.
  • The thread shows the original poster continuing to seek better solutions than their initial approach.
