Best practices for hardmount camera stabilizer operation on moving golf carts
What the thread found
- Position the hardmount offset to the left or right based on your operating side to maintain better visibility and control of the monitor.
- Use neutral or slower-than-usual gimbal drop times to maintain stability and control during movement, as fast drop times reduce precision.
- Secure the gimbal to the armpost using a pin and consider adding a bungee cord to the top of the armpost if planning high-speed movements.
- When following subjects, install shin guards and a tube window cage to protect the operator and maintain a clear shooting area.
- Wear safety goggles and use a clear lens filter to protect against dust and debris kicked up from bicycle tires.
- Harness both the operator and the sled to the cart using adjustable vinyl-coated steel cable to prevent the rig from being thrown during sudden movements.
- Rehearse each shot at reduced speed and secure the movement path beforehand, as vehicle operators tend to react instinctively and may make sudden steering changes.
- High-hat mounts are preferable to pipe mounts if the production cannot rig proper piping solutions.
Depends on
- The operator's non-operating hand can experience significant fatigue from constantly repositioning the rig during handheld corrections.
- This advice applies primarily to shooting with children on bicycles as subjects from a moving golf cart.
- Gyros or specialized stabilization equipment were not available in this specific scenario.
- Following shots from a moving golf cart present additional safety challenges compared to leading shots.
