Mounting camera and stabilizer rig in low mode without dedicated low mode bracket
17 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The HVX200 camera handle is not suitable for supporting a Redrock M2 microX rig during filming, even though it appears structurally sturdy, because it cannot be reliably balanced and places excessive stress on the handle mechanism
- Mounting the stabilizer plate to the camera bottom and flipping the footage in post-production is a practical alternative to building or purchasing a dedicated low mode bracket
- Post-production horizontal flip of footage captured upside-down is considered a standard, straightforward procedure by experienced technicians and rarely presents practical issues
- A two-section Flyer LE post can achieve acceptable low-mode shots by adjusting battery configuration, such as using a Propac and trim pac or stacking multiple V-mount batteries for balance
Depends on
- Single-section stabilizer posts provide very limited low-mode capability compared to two-section posts
- Removing and reattaching the microX adapter requires rebalancing the entire rig, which is time-consuming on set
- Director or producer preference may override technical recommendations against mounting from the handle
