Remote zoom and focus control options for Canon ENG broadcast lenses
14 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The Bebob Zoe ENG-12 can be used with Canon ENG lenses equipped with zoom and focus servos, and an analog BFD manual focus control box can be mounted underneath a gimbal arm for additional control.
- Digital receivers cannot be manually controlled with current remote focus systems, requiring operators to maintain an analog receiver for live work.
- The Stanton Steadicam Zoom and Focus unit costs around 2095 dollars and includes a lens motor, bracket, cable, hand controller, and adapters, powered by a 2-pin connector.
- The G-Zoom controller works effectively on Canon HJ-series lenses with internal zoom and focus servos for live broadcast work.
- The G-Zoom can operate on Canon and Fuji lenses without a focus servo when paired with an analog BFD control box.
- The green record start/stop button on the G-Zoom is positioned where it can be accidentally activated during shots.
Depends on
- ENG lenses must have internal zoom and focus servos installed for motorized remote control to function.
- The G-Zoom compatibility with new Bartech Digi Receiver systems was reported as problematic.
- Experiences reported are from 2012 and may not reflect current product capabilities.
- One user found the record button placement on the G-Zoom to be ergonomically problematic for live work.
