Removing the handle from a Sony HDW790P camera
18 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
What the thread found
- The handle can be removed by taking out two screws at the front base where it connects to the camera body, one screw on the rear top of the handle with its associated plate, and two additional screws beneath that plate.
- Removing the handle exposes the tally lamp, which can remain in place or be taped down as needed.
- Handle removal allows the camera to fit into low mode cages or lens support rings that would otherwise not accommodate it.
- The handle can be reattached using only a single screw for low mode operation if needed for faster setup.
Depends on
- The procedure was discovered through hands-on experience rather than official documentation.
- Low mode operation with a single screw attachment was tested by only one participant and may require individual verification.
