Vibration issues with Steadicam Pilot versus EasyReady Kit One for lightweight camera work

16 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.

What the thread found

  • Vibration problems on lightweight camera sleds occur with similar frequency as on rigs designed for heavy cameras.
  • Vibration issues can stem from multiple sources including loose zoom lenses, unfixed mattebox or support rods, improperly secured cameras, slack between vest and arm, slack between gimbal and armpost, incorrect arm tensioning, poorly mounted monitor sleds, loose additional weights, and battery play on mounting plates.
  • The Steadicam Pilot vibration problem occurs primarily when the telescopic post is extended to maximum, not in normal low-mode operation.
  • When the post is fully extended, the thin and long carbon fiber can enter resonance, causing rotative vibration especially when stopping pans quickly.
  • In realistic configurations with the post not fully extended, vibration issues with the Pilot are not reported as a problem.

Depends on

  • The discussion references unresolved complaints in other forum threads but does not explain the original causes.
  • The recommendation to contact manufacturers directly is mentioned but outcomes are not documented.
  • Comparison between Steadicam Pilot and EasyReady Kit One performance is incomplete, with only one side presenting detailed equipment information.
