Compatibility and modification options for upgrading Arri Artemis 1.8" post to work with Volt system

Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.

What the thread found

  • Grinding down an Artemis 1.8" post to fit a Volt-compatible post is not feasible because it would significantly weaken the structural integrity, as the Volt post design differs fundamentally from the standard 1.8" post design.
  • The MK-V gimbal is compatible with the Arri 1.8" post and supports the Volt system.
  • A Betz-tools gimbal can potentially be adapted to an Artemis 1.8" post using appropriate shims, though Betz does not officially support or promote this solution.
  • Alternative gimbal options like Betz-tools with Volt capability exist but typically require additional spacers or shims for compatibility with non-standard post sizes.

Depends on

  • The Betz-tools gimbal compatibility approach requires custom shims that are not officially supplied or endorsed by the manufacturer.
  • Pricing information for some alternatives is outdated (several years old at the time of discussion).
  • Limited real-world experience reported with some solutions like the MK-V gimbal.
