Choosing between V-mount adapter plates and converting a Sachtler Artemis sled to AB Gold mount
13 years old. Gear and prices may have changed since.
Note (as of October 2026)Curt O. Schaller, the developer of Artemis and Trinity, has no longer been with ARRI since the end of 2025. To our knowledge, ARRI currently has no dedicated team and no official contact persons for its stabilizer systems. In our view, the future of this line is uncertain. If you are buying new, get written confirmation from ARRI beforehand on how long service and spare parts are guaranteed. Have used rigs checked by the manufacturer before you buy.
What the thread found
- Adapter plates from V-mount to AB Gold mount can serve as a permanent solution and some operators use them as their default system with backup plates available.
- Converting a Sachtler Artemis from V-mount to AB Gold mount involves removing the V-mount plate and installing a Gold mount plate, which typically requires about 30 minutes including soldering work.
- V-mount systems have a reliability issue where batteries can detach if bumped or struck at certain angles, potentially during live productions or when moving quickly.
- AB Gold mount connections are generally straightforward wiring of positive to positive and negative to negative between the mount and sled.
- Using dedicated AB Gold mount plates rather than adapter plates reduces vibration and provides a more stable connection over time compared to adapter-based solutions.
- Keeping adapter plates for both V-mount to AB and AB to V-mount conversions allows flexibility to borrow or rent batteries from colleagues using different mount systems.
- Matching the battery mount type to what rental houses and crew members in your area typically use improves compatibility and reduces dependency on adapters.
Depends on
- The discussion occurred in 2013 and reflects equipment availability and preferences from that time period.
- Regional variation exists in equipment prevalence, with some areas relying heavily on V-mount rental inventory.
- The specific wiring configuration for direct conversion was not fully confirmed before implementation.
- Some participants mentioned using adapters without detailed assessment of long-term effects on equipment.
